Robotics in Real life - Drones pt1

 Drones In Real Life

As explored in the last blog, drones are autonomous aircraft. In the 21st century, there has been a rapid progression in drone technologies which has led to an increase in the usage of drones in different sectors. In this blog, I will explore some of the uses of drones in our lives.

I had a chance to experience drones in a workshop held by SUTD where I learned the basics of controlling and coding a drone to get functions done. I wrote this blog to share my findings on the possible uses of drones.

1. Military drones - The first application of drones is the military. Modern military drones have a plethora of sensors and advanced surveillance systems. This can help drones be used for intelligence and provide real-time information that can be used by the military. One such example is the Sky Hawk Drone from China. The drone aims to be stealthy and efficient in reconnaissance roles.

Another type of military drone is an armed drone. These drones are used to carry out precision attacks to reduce collateral damage thus making missions more effective.

2. Agriculture - Precision agriculture is the process of using new technologies to increase crop yield and efficiency. Drones are a way to enable precision agriculture. Photo-capturing technology enables drones to take pictures of their fields. This can allow the farmers to plan and see any issues in their crops. Drones are also used to distribute pesticides and fertilizers. The drones can replace crop dusters which makes using drones more cost effective and safer and faster. Some drones can also be used for planting. Some drones can shoot pods with seeds and some nutrients which reduces the need for important and expensive machinery and makes the process very time efficient.

3. Photography and Videography - Aerial photography and videography have been transformed by the emergence of drones. These little gadgets give us a whole new range of perspectives and angles that were once really tricky, if not downright impossible, to capture. Nowadays, drones are used all over the place - in the film industry, real estate, and even event photography and give top-notch images and videos. Their ability to hover and maneuver in tight spaces allows for some creative and dynamic shots that make any project visually stunning. Drones have become more and more affordable and user-friendly that aerial photography is no longer limited to the pros - amateurs can also use drones for photography

In the next part I will explore more real life uses of drones! Stay tuned!
